WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
I’m Rachel, wife to Patrick, and mother to 3 great kids! We moved here from Charleston 14 years ago, although I have lived all over. I own The Darling Loft Salon in Evans, and during my downtime, you will find me at In Focus Church, or behind the sewing machine!

DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
I love to make clothing, but that process can come with a lot of waste. My challenge to myself is to use my scrap fabrics for other purposes, such as quilts, jewelry, bags, bookmarks, and just about anything else I can imagine! Using modern design (and a good bit of quirk), I work hard to create something beautiful and usable.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
The Lord. Seriously- I love to think about God’s creative power when I am making something as silly as a bag. I regularly ask him for ideas, and He is super faithful. I am inspired by handicrafts in other countries that are made with whatever is laying around. I love seeing people make something out of nothing!

FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
The food! My favorite restaurant is an old faithful: Nacho Mamas! I live in Evans, but I try to make it downtown on a regular basis!

WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
I love to challenge myself to be innovative with what I have in my hands, instead of purchasing new items. What is more, I just can’t help myself! Whether it is writing, baking, sewing, highlighting, or just making dinner- I just have to make.

WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Stop scrolling!!! Be a creator, not a consumer. This is what I repeatedly remind myself when I struggle to put the phone down. We can scroll our lives away, or we can take action to enhance our lives and the lives of others!
