one-of-a-kind marbled silk scarves and wall hangings & hand built ceramics

Meet the Maker:

WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
My name is Mia, I’m a full-time artist based in Savannah GA. I’ve been a textile artist for many years and just recently expanded into the world of ceramics and have enjoyed exploring this new medium. All of my work is saturated in color, heavily textured, and one-of-a-kind!

DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
I’m a textile marbler and hand-built ceramics artist with a focus on texture and pattern. I create one-of-a-kind marbled silk scarves and wall hangings by floating pigments on thickened water to make unique monoprints. I hand blend each color and freehand my patterns so that no two are alike! In addition to marbled textiles I hand-build ceramic mugs and jewelry using several techniques, my current favorite being nerikomi which is the process of creating colored clay and forming these colors together to create unique patterns.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Inspiration comes from all directions! Music, vintage fabrics, and Bauhaus weavings are currently inspiring my next round of work.

FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I’m originally from Seattle, WA and moved to Savannah about 4 years ago

WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
I come from a family of artists, it’s what we’ve always done! I love a messy process and watching a new project unfold. There’s so much experimentation in what I do, I love this practice of letting go and embracing a little bit of the chaos in it all.

WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Follow your instincts and only make what you love.
