handmade pottery – mugs, tumblers, berry bowls, spoon rests, + planters

Meet the Artist:

WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
My name is Karly French, I am from Alpharetta, GA and I am a potter.

DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
I create simple ceramic goods on the pottery wheel. I take a lump of clay and turn it into a functional piece whether it’s a mug, berry bowl, planter, etc. Every piece goes through two kiln firings and a trimming, handling and glazing process between those firings. A small batch of work typically takes 3-4 weeks.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Ceramics inspires me. The art of creating something out of nothing is very fulfilling to me. I am inspired by a simple, farmhouse look. I think it is timeless. I like neutral colors, I don’t want to color of my pieces to take away from the body and beauty of my pieces. Sometimes, less is more.

FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I was an equestrian in college

WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
Pottery is my escape. It is mentally therapeutic and just makes me happy. I have always been creative and loved art, but something about getting my hands dirty and making pretty things is just the best.

WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
If you have a passion for something, go for it! It doesn’t matter what it is, make it happen. Your life is so much better when you incorporate time for things you love. I am a work from home mom with a fulltime job, so this is my side hustle. It gets me through and makes me a better mom and person because I am happier when I also get to do what I love.
