Pen and ink illustrations, paintings, collages, and other mixed media artworks.
Meet the Artist:
WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
My name is Mallory Vinson, born and raised in Augusta, Georgia. I am a multi-media artist mainly working in pen and ink illustrations. My work explores the relationship between anatomy of the human body, and romantic ideas of nature. With influences as diverse as artists of the Renaissance, tattoo artists, and the atmosphere around me, my artworks are curated from both traditional and modern structures. Alongside these structures, I tend to emphasize my use of aesthetics and focus on inviting the viewer inside my own imagination and mentality. Ever since I was 14 years old, I have been fascinated by the different styles of artwork created by tattoo artists, cartoonists, and illustrators. A simple admiration soon became a strong passion of mine to create artworks combining these influences with personal flairs, and the goal to inspire others to create art as I once was inspired.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
My process usually begins while I am laying down to go to sleep. I imagine and envision ideas that I can put into action the next day. I wake up, and as soon as I can I sit at my desk and begin working on a new piece. I work on the piece as much as I can, for as long as I need to. With every new piece I do, I like to incorporate new techniques and mediums that i’ve never explored before.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I am ultimately inspired by the atmosphere around me. Whatever I am currently into at the time whether it’s a tv show, movie, a pop culture icon, or something i’m genuinely interested in learning more about (I.e anything to do with anatomy).
FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
Aside from art, my second favorite thing to do is play guitar.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
My favorite things about Downtown Augusta is the splashes of local art and color, and the record stores.
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
I like to be able to express myself. I began drawing when I was 14 to simply tape or push pin them to my bedroom walls. After all these years it’s great to see how much I, and my bedroom wall, have grown and achieved.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Always stay true to who you are and always remind yourself why you began. Never get discouraged by other people’s “achievements”, because you’ll always have your OWN achievements to be proud of.
