Hand Sewn & Embroidered Items and Augusta Themed Mini Sculptures.
Meet the Maker:
WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
I’m Amelia, I am originally from Colorado, but I’ve lived in the CSRA for most of my life. I’m a piercer by trade, but I love to sculpt miniatures and I love hand embroidery. I always like to have something to do with my hands and as a result I make art almost constantly.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
My process for sculpting starts with a lot of picture taking, if I’m out and about I’m usually taking pictures of everything. Then I pick out interesting signs or monuments and attempt to sculpt them. Once I’m done I’ll paint them and usually hide them for the general public to find. Embroidery i start with a drawing, transfer it to fabric and I sew almost constantly. Each piece can take a significant amount of time depending on detail.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I’m inspired by others appreciating my art.
FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I have an entire room in my house just for my pet reptiles.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
The food!
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
I don’t think I could function if I didn’t. I like that art can make people feel and question and smile.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Just do it, even if you’re not good at it. It’s not that practice makes perfect it’s that the effort you put into things starts to show over time.
