Meet the Maker:
WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
A native of Woodstock, GA, I attended the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art, where I earned a degree in Art/Art Education in 2007. A year later, I moved to Austin, Texas, where I met my husband, taught art, and welcomed our first child. We lived in Austin for 10 years before moving to Augusta in 2018.
I am currently balancing the daily life of a working mom, and find that creating art provides more personal peace, motivation, and reward than ever before. My artistic style has evolved over the years to my most recent works, where I gravitate toward mixed media abstract watercolors that are inspired by nature.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
I enjoy working with many materials, but especially love painting with watercolors and acrylics. In my recent works, I usually start with a watercolor background to define the space and then add many layers of colors. I usually don’t have a specific plan when I start a painting, but rather let the creative process lead the way. I like to add finishing details to my work with paint markers, colored pencil, and oil pastel.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Nature is my biggest and most continuous source of inspiration. Landscapes and seascapes with their naturally occurring textures, lines, and color palettes are fascinating and guide my creative process.
FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I enjoy cooking and getting creative with my own spin on recipes. I watch cooking videos and shows regularly to learn about new techniques and flavor combinations.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
My favorite thing about Downtown Augusta is seeing all of the amazing public art, visiting shops, and enjoying new restaurants.
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
Art will always be a huge part of my life- it’s part of my identity. For me, creating art is therapeutic and very rewarding.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Trust your instincts and stay true to yourself. Don’t let someone else’s opinions change your creativity.
