animal and nature themed art
Meet the Maker:
WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
I’m Bethany and I’m mixed media artist from Charlotte NC.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
Most of my artwork is painted and created on wood that I hand cut. Sometimes it’s from a recycled cabinet or left over from a building project. Then, I tend to pick out the animal, colors and materials I want to use on a piece but, a lot of it is spontaneous. I find that I’m more satisfied leaning on intuition in my work.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Animal personalities, shapes and lines in nature and pops of color.
FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I’m a power tool hoarder. Even if I don’t use them for my projects I can’t seem to get rid of them.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
I haven’t visited Augusta recently so I’m looking forward to doing a little exploring.
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
Art and creating is my outlet. Life is extremely stressful and creating is my way to escape and also use materials that would just end up being thrown away. I’m addicted to that giddy feeling of finishing a piece and also having that community with customers and other makers.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Being a maker or artist is very competitive so be prepared to be rejected. Don’t let rejection be the gatekeeper of doing what you love
