Original Screenprinted Art.

Meet the Artist:

WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
Mikaela Fuchs

DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
I draw a scene on a translucent paper called denril. Each color in the finished piece is created with a different layer of ink, so I’ll make a drawing for the placement of each color. I coat a screen (mesh on a frame) with emulsion (light sensitive goop), let it dry, and then expose the screen to light with the drawn image on top. Light hardens the emulsion. The drawing blocks the light, and I am able to wash that part out, creating a stencil that I can then scrape ink through onto paper with a squeegee.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Stories, people, growing up, nature.

FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
Mother of 3 boys.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
Nacho Mamas and Ubora.

WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
I love getting really focused “in the zone” when it’s easy to create.

WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Develop good work habits, don’t wait for inspiration to strike.
