handstitched filled patches and other custom goods inspired by the golden age of american traditional tattoos of the 1940s and 50s

Meet the Artist:

WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
Hi there! I’m Caroline, I’m from Charleston, SC and I make hand-stitched patches and other custom goods inspired by the golden age of American traditional tattooing

DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
I started out selling vintage clothing almost 5 years ago, but I am a woman of many hobbies and thus, I taught myself how to hand embroider in 2018. I instantly became addicted! Before I knew it, my felt patches and custom embroidery pieces were eclipsing my vintage business in a big way and I had to face the facts that embroidery was the way to go — and here we are! Each patch I make is designed by me and made with cotton floss and eco-felt, which is made from recycled plastic bottles. I love being able to recycle my leftover felt scraps, too!

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I love imagery and design from the 1940s & 50s as well as traditional tattoos that sailors would get at ports in WWII.

FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I was born in The Netherlands!

FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
James Brown!

WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
It’s so satisfying to be able to make something that didn’t exist a few hours before.

WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Practice makes progress! Growth is a slow burn so always keep at it and hone your craft.
